Rainforest Fun! FREEBIE-whoot whoot!!

Hiya Peeps!! Kerri here...
Well, I am in the midst of conference week and I have 10 conferences down, 13 to go!! They are going very well (I have the sweetest parents!) but I am excited for the weekend to get here so I can work on PART DEUX of my Rainforest Fun! Unit!! By Sunday, fingers crossed, I will have it completed and it will include directions for 8 rainforest animal art projects, tons of graphics organizers, writing paper, recommended books and websites, and other goodies!

I just created a little FREEBIE to go along with these that you can upload from TPT! It is a Rainforest Fun! Number to Number Word Match and Greater Than/Less Than Activity. Of course, whilst in the midst of creating it, my computer decided to FREAK THE FREAK OUT and I lost almost the whole darn thing! AAARRGGHH!! Will I never learn to save as I go?? DANGIT!!
Excuse the above rant...anyhoo, I refused to be beaten down by my MAC (who is usually so good to me, but she is turning 3 this year so maybe she's getting old??) and I re-made it. That, my friends, is called obsessive compulsive disorder for all bloggy type things!! :)

Feeling LUCKY today!

Hi Friends! Kerri here...
Lindsay and I are having a "peas and carrots" Thursday (Forrest Gump reference-MY FAVE!) since we both have things we would like to share with you! I'm first!


YES, I still have 6 report cards to do, but in true Miss Procrastination style, I decided to blog instead of buckling down and getting them done. Blogging takes me to my happy place, and so did our leprechaun art today. Check these little guys out!

I mean, COME ON!! Could they be any cuter?? This lesson is from Kaye Espinosa's TLC art Spring Book, which you can get here on TPT!! It is FANTASTIC, girls! If you have not checked out the TLC Art website, you really must. I have made SOOO many of her art projects with my kidlets and they come out great every time!


After we made our leprechauns today, we learned the following poem and my kiddos copied it onto the leprechaun paper I blogged about here. I found it online called "Five Little Leprechauns":

5 little leprechauns on St. Patty’s Day,

The 1^st one said, “I’d like to play!”

The 2^nd one stood beside a rainbow.

The 3^rd  one waved and said, “Hello!”

The 4^th  one said, “Good luck to the bold.”
 

The 5^th  one said, “Just don’t touch my gold!”

They all danced around,

And then ran off with a bound!

I also have a little Shamrock Spelling Scramble activity to share that I created last year for my kiddos to do in centers to practice their spelling words. I have not been able to find cute Shamrock boxes, like the heart boxes I got from the Dollar Tree in February, but I do have NOT-AS-CUTE boxes that will work just fine (MUST STOP OBSESSING OVER CUTENESS!!) 

My kids will choose a numbered box, unscramble the letters to make a spelling word, and write it in the correct shamrock, then choose 5 words and write 5 juicy sentences. Click on the shamrock to get your own copy!

Well, I guess I will do a little procrastinating tonight too, seeing as how I only have 23 more report cards to do. Oh wait. That's all of them. Dangit!

Well, tonight, I will be brief . . . but I do have something exciting to share!!  Next Friday is St. Patrick's Day Eve and I will be doing one of my favorite kinder traditions . . . a leprechaun hunt!! 

 Every year my kidlets and I have so much fun following the clues and the glittery trail our tricky little leprechaun leaves behind all over school!  This year I decided to share this tradition with you all, so I created the Lucky the Leprechaun Adventure Pack!  Included in this pack are nine pages of colorful shamrock clues to lead your students all around your school, Lucky the Leprechaun writing paper for your students to write about your adventure, and an adorable little recalling/sequencing activity for your students to complete after the hunt.  I even included some tips on how to set up your hunt!   Click on the image below to see the  preview of my "Lucky the Leprechaun Adventure Pack":

It's A PB&J Wednesday

That's right. Its a PB&J Wednesday.  No . . . we aren't talking sandwiches here people.  We are talking about the dynamic duo of Kerri and Lindsay, Lindsay and Kerri. Like peanut butter and jellly. Tonight you get a little of both of us!   

First off . . . Lindsay here.

I came to the realization today that, under no uncertain circumstances am I EVER to put up downloads, TPT items, or any sort of information into the blogosphere after 11:00 p.m. because my brain is completely useless.  APPARENTLY last night when I uploaded my Lucky Charms graph onto TPT I didn't even realize that the numbers on the side of my graph began with zero, rather than beginning with the number one like it should.  YIKES!  Soooooo . . . for all of you fabulous followers who have already purchased that little math center, I have uploaded the corrected version to TPT for you to re-download.  (click pic to go to my store!)

So sorry for the mistake.  Like I said . . .no more late night brainless uploads. Scouts honor.

I have a little FREEBIE for those of you who use Houghton Mifflin and read the story Lost! by David McPhail with your kidlets. 


(WARNING: this is black and white-insert small shudder, AND not that cute-insert larger shudder!)


We are reading that story this week, and I just whipped this up today, so I apologize for the lateness of it if you have already read that story (you can save it for next year, right??) 


It is a little comprehension activity that my students are very successful completing independently or with a partner, while I pull my low babies and give them some extra reading TLC. 

I copy this 50% so the pictures will fit into the boxes

I copy this onto the back of the comprehension questions paper...

This is how it all goes down in my classroom:


Step 1: I pair my kids up and they partner read the story. 
Step 2: Comprehension Activity: With their partner, they answer the questions about the story and  cut and paste the appropriate picture that matches their answer next to it in the box.
Step 3: They turn their paper over and look for all of the compound words (our focus for the week) they can find in the story.

Leprechauns, Lucky Charms, and Losing It With Report Cards

Hello cyberbuddies.  Lindsay here . . .

I feel as though I have been living in the movie Groundhog Day.  Ya know . . . where Bill Murray wakes up and ever day its the same day again, and again, and again . . .and again. And again. You get the idea . . .

Anyway, in getting ready for conference week next week I have been assessing my little kidlets like crazy!!  Assessing during centers.  One-on-one assessments during recess and after school.  Assessments during "educational video" time.  Suffice to say, my class is ready for the assessments to be over!!  Of course, then I still have the actual report cards to do. All 23 of them. By next week. Yikes.   Hmmm . .. let's procrastinate some more, shall we?  Let me fill you in on what my class was up to last week.  (Besides all those assessments!)

First off, we had SO much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss all last week, although many of our fun activities have spilled over into this week too.  One of the highlights of the week was on Friday when some handsome friendly local firemen came and read a Dr. Seuss book to the class.  The teachers kids were so excited for our extra special guests!  Fireman Travis even brought a red plastic fireman's hat for each kiddo to take home! 

Then, of course, we jumped right into all of the wonderful madness of March!  We made our adorable little leprechauns . . . . Can you see my favorite one in the bottom right corner?  I love his crazy mouth and stilts for legs - classic!

And we have been continuing to work on our Five Senses Unit.  The two most recent lessons we have worked on were hearing and sight.  For hearing, my students sorted pictures according to what makes sound and what does not. This sparked LOTS of great discussion amongst the kidlets.   Then they had so much fun illustrating each other and practicing their keen sense of sight.  And we're not done yet . . . the TASTE lesson is yet to come and is the best of all! (And not just because it involves food.)

And finally, in preparation for celebrating St. Patties Day next week (AHHHHHH!!  How did it get here so soon??!!) I have created a little Lucky Charms math center to help my little kidlets practice their graphing, counting, comparing numbers, and using tally marks.  AND it gives them an excuse to eat sugar - yay!  This is an activity that I do year after year with my kiddos, but I decided to beef up the data sheet that the students fill out this year AND create a color-coded sorting mat that will help the kids figure out which shape each colored marshmallow is.  Because let's face it . . . they all end up looking a bit like rounded little blobs of colored sugar that don't quite resemble hats or horseshoes or pots of gold, right?  Problem solved!!  To purchase this little math activity for your March centers this month, click on the preview image below:

Alright, alright . . . I have put off the inevitable as long as possible.  Time to buckle down and fill in some Excel spreadsheets in my fat pants.  Yep, just living the dream here tonight people!  :)

6 report cards down, 18 to go! I have myself on a strict schedule-6 per night, so I don't have to worry about them next weekend. We'll see if I stick to it! :)
