Sight Words EVERYWHERE and a GIVEAWAY!!

Happy Sunday, Friends! Kerri AND Lindsay here today...

Sooooo....you know how we like to say we're "peas and carrots?" Well, apparently we're peas and carrots when it comes to creating products too, because this past week we BOTH created Sight Word Packs, un-beknownst to the other! I (Kerri) called Lindsay and asked her to look at something I was working on, and she replied, "Oh great! Look what I'M working on!" HA!!

Luckily for both of us, our Sight Word Packs are super different from each other, each pack focusing on different skills, so without further ado....
I present to you our SIGHT WORDS EXTRAVAGANZA!!

First Up...Kerri's SUPER-ific Sight Word Practice Pack! 

This pack focuses on reading, printing, and using each word in a sentence: 50 high-frequency and color words, with WRITE AND WIPE mats to use in centers, as well as black line reproducible pages!

Here's a closer look:

These colorful mats can be laminated and used in your Literacy centers with a write and wipe marker (What is it about dry erase markers that make the kids all giddy and excited??) The black line masters can be sent home for extra practice or made into a Sight Word Practice book!

And next up . . . here is Lindsay's "Trace It, Write It, Find It, Make It - Sight Word Practice" pack!!

 

 

This pack contains 65 different sight word practice pages, including high frequency words from both the Houghton Mifflin and Open Court Language Arts programs AND number words as well! 

 

 For each word that your students practice, they will be actively engaged, as they trace the word, "rainbow write" the word (write it each time in a DIFFERENT color), find the word, cut out the letters of the word and glue them in order, and circle the letters of the alphabet that are used to make the word!

The best part is that your kiddos will be able to easily practice their words indepdendently (even your non-readers!) using the icons on the worksheet - for tracing, rainbow writing, circling, cutting and gluing!

Catchin' On To Our Color Words!

Happy Monday Blogging Buddies!  Lindsay here . . .


It's so strange to be at home creating things for my dear little kinder kiddos who I haven't even met yet!  I am excited to see what progress they have made so far this year, and ready to help them really take off and get ready for first grade when I return to school next month!


One of the things that always amazes me is how quickly these kiddos pick up their sight words!  We practice writing them, tracing them, singing and dancing them (HeidiSongs anyone?? Love her!), hunting for them in text and around our classroom . . . we even play dice games with them!  Of the 40 words that my kiddos learn, they are responsible for also learning their color words.  This freebie is a great practice for color words.  Your kinders will cut out the color words and glue them onto the worksheet to match the words, then practice writing the word themself, and finally color in the box in each row the correct color!

Owl art and a couple freebies!!

Happy Friday night, friends!! Kerri here...
Anyone else as exhausted as I am tonight? Cuz seriously, I am BEAT. I couldn't even stay up last night for The Office (BEST. SHOW. EVER.) What a wimp I've become!


Drumroll please...here they are, the super fabulous OWLS!! This one I created about 5 years ago when I taught Kinder, and it may just be my most favorite art project we do all year. We have been doing all sorts of owl activities this week, and next week we will be dissecting owl pellets (soooo gross, I can't even think about it)  I am hoping to recruit some manly dads to come in and help my kiddos dissect their owl pellets, so I don't have to touch them! HA! 

I heart them! We also copied an owl poem with our most perfect penmanship EVER (well, that was the hope anyway!) on some owl writing paper that I made, and eventually the two will be glued side by side and saved for their First Grade Adventure book. I also made up some high frequency words cards for Theme 2 and Theme 3 of Houghton Mifflin that the kidlets can use to practice their spelling, practice reading, whatevas... You have no idea how much we love the blogging community. I (Kerri) am seriously addicted to stalking other people's blog, and the ideas that you all have inspire me SOOO much!! Sooo...here are a couple freebies that I conjured up (Harry Potter reference...yes, I am a geek!) this morning before church. The first I made using DJ Inkers September Whimzee (superdy CUTE!) and it is a spelling scramble recording page. I plan on using our Theme 1 sight words, which are basically a review of the Kindergarten sight words. I would love to put the letter tiles into little apple boxes (anyone know where I can find such cuteness?) since the recording sheet is apple themed. I got this idea from Miss Cara over at The First Grade Parade. She made an AWESOME spelling scramble sheet last February and she had heart boxes to put the letters in (TO DIE FOR!). I plan on making a new one each month, appropriately themed. I made a scrambled spelling sheet for March, April, and May last year (you can find by checking out the archives). Back to School Spelling scramble

Another freebie I made this morning is an apple themed Back to School Sentence Scramble, using LOTS of Kinder sight words as a review for my incoming Firsties. You could also use this in Kinder since many of the sight words are Kinder words! The clip art I used is Digital Whimzee, which I found through Michelle at Fabulous in First (I LOVE her BLOG!) You can find this clipart on ETSY, and best of all, she allows you to use it to give away freebies! YAY! It is super cutesy and colorful! Sight Word Fun Freebie!

Hi Friends! Kerri here again...
Well, Mr. Bojangles  has settled in nicely. My husband (who is a 7th grade science teacher) thought he was so cool that he decided to get his class one too! We named his bearded dragon Beaker! Hopefully those 7th graders won't scare him to much! HA!


At the beginning of the year, I find that my firsties have a hard time remembering all of the sight words that they learned in Kindergarten. Our district uses Houghton Mifflin, which only has 18 Kindergarten sight words (WEAK!) so when I taught Kinder, I always had my kids practice learning the color words also. 
The center I've created has 36 Kinder sight word cards (including the color words), 2 word building mats, and a "show what you know" worksheet that asks the kids to write the word, rainbow write it, and then stamp it. I plan on giving my kids a baggy with 6 cards in it, and they will then choose a card, read the word,  and build the word on the laminated chalkboard mat with magnetic letters, or whatever letters I have on hand. After reading and spelling all 6 words, they will complete the worksheet using their baggy of words. I think they will enjoy it. For you Kinder teachers out there, this center will be great later on to reinforce the words they are learning.
